-The public transport in the Czech Republic is really cheap and reliable, and there are beautiful places close to Brno that are worth visiting (depending on what are your plans). For instance the city of Kroměříž, Zlín, Znojmo, Mikulov, Lednicko-Valtický areál etc.
That's my experience too. Nice place, possibly the best city in the Czech Republic for foreigners, but I wouldn't call it the most exciting place I've lived in. I lived in Brno for two years and still have feelings for that city, but I won’t be so sure it’s better than Krakow (which I have visited once for 5 days).Brno in the Czech Republic might be an underrated city, but it’s definitely worth visiting if you are heading to Central Europe – there is so much to see and do. It’s a great destination (not only) for lovers of history, culture, architecture and art. Brno is more laid-back than Prague or Vienna and you can expect better value there too.

Brno is absolutely safe - I don't know of anywhere safer - you can walk around all parts of it at all times of the day and night, even the parts that locals might warn you against, and nothing untoward will happen to you.
